The Death Rolla, at Drury-lane, and the Death of Asphar, at Astley’s, contrive, by some secret magnetic influence, to crowd each house every night with some thousands of spectators. In the character of Rolla we behold nature, and all that can be looked for in a man: in the Lord of the Black Castle, still nature is to be seen; but such a character, or rather monster, as the Moor (though drawn in the most able and masterly manner, and, from the fine acting of Mr. Astley, jun. a more finished tyrant is now to be witnessed) may we know him but by name.
