AUBIN cannot take leave of a great and truly liberal British Audience, without begging their acceptance of his grateful acknowledgements for the very distinguished and flattering reception with which the Ladies and Gentlemen of this Country, brought to England by him, have been received since their engagement with Mr. Astley, jun.—a reception which, he begs leave to say, has made an impression so powerful on him, as can never be forgot; and trusts, that the kind intention of Mr. Astley, in granting him a Benefit this Night, prior to his return to France, will ensure him, from the nature of the Entertainments, expressly prepared for the occasion, another proof of the patronage and generosity of the English Nation.
THIS present Monday, September 20, will be presented, never performed in this kingdom, an entirely new Grand Spectacle, in three Acts, taken from Records of the 11th Century, performed with unbounded applause at the Theatre of the City of Paris, and produced by Mons. Gougisbus, sen. called ZILIA, or the Child of Mystery. Preceding the above (first time this Season) a Comic Entertainment of Music and Dancing, called THE HAUNTED VILLAGE, or Clod and Peter.—In the course of the Evening, various Feats of Horsemanship.—A favourite Comic Song by Mr. Wallack.—And, for the last week, the new Comic Pantomime, with extensive Scenery, Machinery, and various Mechanical Changes, invented by Mr. Astley, jun. called THE PHOENIX, or Harlequin and Lillipo. In the course of which will be pourtrayed [sic], Mons. Gernerin’s and Captain Sowden’s Aerial Voyage in a Balloon, with an exact representation of its appearance over London, and its Descent near Colchester, in the real Car, presented by Mons. Garnerin to Mr. Astley.
