A correspondent thinks Mr. Astley acted like a very prudent and penetrating General in his manoeuvres this season?; for had he not provided such a variety of new and excellent exhibitions, he must certainly have suffered greatly from his son being now in France. We do not mean by this to depreciate the merit of the rest of the horsemanship, on the contrary, what is performed of it is excellent. Mr. John Taylor is a very promising Horseman, and performs a variety of feats with great applause. Miss Vangable’s riding two horses while they leap the bar, riding without holding the bridle, and drinking a glass of wine on full gallop, are most extraordinary feats for a young lady to perform. Signor Martkutchy, the horse vaulter, has not an equal for agility. His vaulting seems to be rather a species of flying while the horse gallops twice round the ride, and his performance of the clown is executed with great humour, spirit, and vivacity.
