The new burletta of Cupid Pilgrim, performed at Astley’s theatre with such universal applause, is a translation of a piece acted at Paris with as much eclat as ever attended Beaumarchais’s popular comedy of Le Mariage de Figaro, so well received here under the name of the Follies of a Day, a circumstance that cannot give any surprise, as it is certainly one of the neatest and prettiest things every produced, whether considered in point of fable, recitative, music, acting, or effect, the combined merits of which cannot fail rendering it a favourite with the town, and a most powerful attraction, in common with the various other entertainments, that give Astley’s Theatre so decided a superiority in the opinion of the public.
