For the MORNING HERALD.
Mr. EDITOR,
In reading a statement, in a Morning Paper of yesterday, concerning an application for a Third Theatre, with the arguments made thereon, before the Right Honourable the Lords of Council, ay Whitehall, I observed my name, in some points, coupled with Mr. ELLISTON’s, the present lessee of the Royal Circus, St. George’s Fields.—I most respectfully venture to say, I have not, or ever had an idea of troubling their Lordships, or the Honourable House of Commons, on such business, which alone concerns those High Authorities, being very happy in my humble situation, notwithstanding the very heavy losses I have sustained, by having two theatres burnt down, and two rebuilt, in the space of ten years!—But, thanks to Providence, by exertions of myself and son, we have nearly accomplished our noble and much wished for ambition—that of paying all demands caused by the aforesaid conflagrations, without even attempting to raise the prices of admission, or any other aid than the liberal patronage of a generous Public.
I am Sit, your humble Servant,
PHILIP ASTLEY.
