THE HORSE BANDITTI AT ASTLEY’S THEATRE.
Last night a very costly Pedestrian and Equestrian Spectacle made its first appearance at the above Theatre. The Chief of the Banditti, whose name is Voorn the Tiger! manoeuvres this band of robbers so as to assume several characters, in order the better to carry on their nefarious projects of plunder. On a certain night, taking up his abode in his cottage, during a tremendous storm, he gives, unwillingly, an asylum to Romanzo and Lidora; Voorn instantly conceives a lawless passion for the latter, and accordingly plots the death of her lover, who however escapes, leaving Lidora in the power of the ruthless freebooter. At length, after many interesting situations, Romanzo, with a chosen troop, led on by Albert, (a bandit who hates Voorn for his cruelty,) arrives, by means of a secret pass, in time to save his beloved Lidora, and destroys Voorn and his predatory horse. The piece went off with unprecedented eclat, a striking proof that Equestrian Spectacles are to be seen at this Theatre in their proper element.
