THE LORD MAYOR’S DAY.

Notwithstanding the terrors of a government commission, and the denunciations of the incorruptible Acland, the anniversary of the time-honoured “Lord Mayor’s Day” was celebrated yesterday with unusual éclat and success. The day was unusually fine for the season of the year, and the crowds in the streets justified the conclusion that all classes of citizens had determined on making the day a general holiday. Not even on the occasions of royal visits to the City have we seen the streets so densely thronged. Every window along the line of route was filled with well-dressed ladies, and the streets were so densely thronged that circulation (except within the barriers) was quite impossible. It as calculated by competent judges that upwards of half a million of people witnessed the pageant of yesterday.

They were three great points of attraction, viz., Guildhall, Fish-street-hill, and Billlingsgate. In the neighbourhood of Guildhall the crowd was excessive, and the shouts of the populace gave a most welcome salute to the advent of the Lord Mayor on his entrance on the duties of his office. The various commercial houses in the locality were decorated with flags, and the windows adorned with female beauty more brilliant and imposing than flags could make them. The procession formed at Guildhall, and the stately equipages and the caparisoned horses drew the attention and excited the admiration of the spectators.

As the former programme was imperfect and incorrect in some particulars, we subjoin the order of procession as it actually passed through the streets yesterday:
