A correspondent observes, it is no wonder Astley’s Amphitheatre should be so great a favourite with the public, since he always takes care to unite in his exhibitions everything that is excellent, or receives approbation in any place of public entertainment in or near the metropolis. To prove this, we need only adduce the dancing dogs of Sadler’s Wells, and the legerdemain tricks of Pinetti having been such great favourites with the town, Astley has introduced his magical tables, which he performs himself, to the admiration and astonishment of his whole audience; he has also an exhibition of dogs, which seem to promise him a most plentiful vintage of golden grapes. He therefore cannot but conceive there is something emblematical of their success in his introduction of a number of them, as labourers, carrying grapes in his vineyard.
