ANECDOTE.

A gentlemen just arrived from Paris, has favoured us with the following Anecdote of French Politics.

It seems, when ASTLEY first exhibited his maneuvering in that kingdom, the Petit Theatre opened by him, was the seventeenth place of public amusement, three of which falling off, Astley’s became the fourteenth on the licence list; whereas, when that veteran was last in Paris, only a month or two ago, the number of licenced public diversions was multiplied to forty-seven—Music, mirth, &c. &c. being deemed the best recipe, or antidote, by the French, for discontent, gloom, &c. &c. on their long established maxim, that the man who laughs is never dangerous.
