The number of people at Mr. Astley’s Riding Amphitheatre last night on the benefit of his son, was very great; though every accommodation was industriously studied, and even a large part of the Ride thrown into the Pit, yet many persons were disappointed in not being able to get a place. The performances of young Mr. Astley are truly astonishing—and every person seemed pleased and surprised at seeing that his father, who exhibited the Broad Sword, as in real action, still preserving that activity which has so often excited both their pleasure and astonishment.—If any part of the public amusement should be encouraged in preference to another, it should certainly be this, which the most rigid Disciplinarian cannot but allow to be perfectly innocent, very useful, and rationally interesting.
