The excellency of Astley’s Theatre, consists in novelty and variety. The local pieces beautifully imagined and richly dressed: the Horsemanship manly, useful, and entertaining; the dances spirited, graceful, and operatically displayed; and the Pantomime abounding with the curiosities of Ireland: The whole does the inventor, manager, and artist, the highest credit.
To the new Entertainments new performing at the Royal Circus, there is, it seems, Mo Morrow [sic] Evening, to be added a Fox Chace, with a real Fox, and twelve Couples of staunch Hounds.—This will afford fine sport, indeed, when we consider the space of ground Reynard will have to run over, and how well the horsemen can gallop their horses, having through the school to ride and round the court-yard, then through the school again. This ride is well lighted, and the Horsemanship, of course, seen to its proper advantages; the advantage which it has over all Equestrian Exercises ever before attempted in this kingdom. His Royal Highness the Duck of Clarence, and the large party who accompanied him last Wednesday to the Circus, professed the highest admiration, and particularly noticed Handy’s excellent Horsemanship; indeed, Handy’s Troop, is allowed by judges, to be the completest in all Europe.
