The genteeler members of society seem, at present, no less attached to Astley’s Theatre, than the commonality were formerly: how the Young Manager has obtained to himself the difficult art of pleasing the public, when so many have attempted it in vain, is beyond our comprehension. The truth is the ROYAL SALOON aims always at the whim of the moment, and is therefore, sure to hit it. Light subjects taken from recent events prove the most solid in the end; for they can catch the eye, and strike the fancy and it is to such remarks as these they the public is indebted, for the SURRENDER OF CONDE which is said to be the grandest military Spectacle ever presented to a soldier.
