Mr. ASTLEY, jun. is said to have conceived the idea (and a most ingenious and admirable one it certainly is, of exhibiting Sit Sydney Smith’s escape) from France, through the means of a body of Fireworks, which, for novelty, fancy, and taste, very far exceed any thing of the kind ever witnessed in this kingdom. In face, though we might with much propriety expiate on the merits of the various entertainments now in performance at the Amphitheatre of Arts, this novel and unexpected morteau, like a delicious viand untasted before, may be said so to delight and astonish, as to bear down all before it, and render every other sweet in a manner tasteless and insipid.
