EXTRAORDINARY NOVELTY.
Miss SMITH’s BENEFIT.
ROYAL AMPHITHEATRE, (ASTLEY’s) WestminsterBridge.
THIS present Evening, will be presented (never performed) an entirely new Grand Historical Spectacle of Action, founded on the recent Occurrences in India, called THE STORMING OF SERINGAPATAM; or, THE DEATH OF TIPPOO SAIB. The Songs, Duets, and Chorusses [sic] written by Mr. Upton; and the whole of the Spectacle invented, composed, arranged, and got up by Mr. Astley, jun. with entire new and superb Dresses, new and extensive Scenery and Machinery, new Music, &c. In the course of the Piece the following most striking Scenery will be displayed: 1. An Indian Seaport.—2. A View near the River Cavery.—3. The Banqueting Garden of Tippoo Sultaun.—4. The Commander in Chief, General Harris’s Marquee.—5. A correct View of the City of Seringapatam, with the whole of Tippoo’s Army, Elephants, Camels, &c. in motion; together with the Mysore Army, consisting of Peadars, Eungaries, Sirdas, &c. storming a Camp, near Fort Periapatam.—6. A British Battery opening a brisk Fire on Tippoo’s Piquet Guard; particularly the blowing up of a Powder-Mill.—7. A View of the British and Company’s Army crossing the River Cavery with Pontoons and Portable Bridge of Boats.—8. The Fortifications of Seringapatam, with the Springing of a Mine.9.—External View of Tippoo’s Palace, with his two Sons firing from the windows.—10. The Zenaha and City on Fire. With a Variety of Circumstances that attended this important Conquest.
Preceding the above, at Half past Six o’clock precisely, (first time these three years, and for this night only) a Serio-Comic Nautical Ballet of Action, by Mr. Astley, jun. called TRUE BLUE; or, BRITISH BULL-DOGS. Principal Characters, Miss Smith, and Mr. Astley, jun. being most assuredly his last appearance this Season.
By particular Desire, and also for this night only, the Operatical Ballet of HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. Principal Characters Mons. Mercerot and Miss Smith.
In the Intervals of the above three capital Amusements, the Performances of the Ventriloquist, various Comic Songs, Equestrian Exercises, Slack-Rope Vaulting, Troop of Jumpers, &c.—To conclude with the new superb Comic Pantomime, by Mr. Astley, jun. called The DEMON’s TRIBUNAL.
