ROYAL AMPHITHEATRE, (Astley’s) Westminster Bridge.
Under the Patronage of their Royal Highnesses the Prince of WALES and Duke of YORK
THIS and every Evening until further notice, will be presented (never performed at this Theatre) a Grand Serio Spectacle, in Two Parts, as represented at Paris with unbounded applause, with new Scenery, Machinery, Dresses, and other Decorations, called THE FATAL PILE, or, VIRTUE REVENGED. Principal Characters, Messrs. Laurent, Mercerot, Lasselles, Gomery, Bradbury, Taylor, Jenkins, Allen, Fox, De Castro, Gray, Connell, and Lasselles, jun. Mesdames Mercerot, Wallack, Broad, Burton, Glover, Boyce, Bryne, Jeffries, and Miss Smith. In the course of the Spectacle will be pourtrayed [sic] the exact Ceremony which takes place on the INSTALLATION of a KNIGHT, with appropriate Banners, Attributes, &c. &c.—After the above Spectacle, the Grand and most extensive Troop of HORSEMEN, consisting of Twenty Performers, including Messrs. Crossman, Handy, &c. &c. will go through their surprising and unparalleled EQUESTRIAN EXERCISES, being the Last Week of their Engagement.—The whole to conclude with (never performed) an entirely new Serio-Comic Pantomime, called QUIXOTE and SANCHO, or HARLEQUIN WARRIOR. The Scenery designed by Mr. Grieves, and executed by him, Mess. Spitzer, Blackmore, Tumings, and Assistants. The Machinery, Mechanical Tricks, and Properties, by Mess. Honor and Bradwell. The Dresses by Mr. Clary, Mr. Betz, Mrs. Foster, and Assistants. The Music by Messrs. Lawrence and Broad. The Recitative, Songs, Duets, and Chorusses [sic], written by Mr. Upton. And the whole invented, adapted for Stage Representation, and got up under the immediate superintendence of Mr. Astley, jun. In the course of the Pantomime will be introduced (for the first time in this country) on the Stage, TWO SQUADRONS of HORSES, mounted by Warriors clad in Gold and Silver Armour, who will go through various Evolutions of Ancient Warfare.—The following interesting new Scenery and Machinery will be displayed in the course of the Pantomime, viz. The Bridal Hall, in Pantaloon’s Castle—The Castle of Pantaloon, with its adjacent Landscape—Antichamber in Pantaloon’s Castle—Outside of a Music-shop—Inside of a Music-shop, ,with its dependent Mechanical Changes—A Supper-Table, converted into an Orange-Tree bearing Fruit, and then into a Hamper of Wine—Don Quixote’s furious Attack on the Windmill, and the Mill turned into a Pillory—A Hogshead metamorphosed into the Italian Marionetts [sic], and a Tea-Box into the Puppets—Two of Pumpkins, from one of which Columbine is seen to escape—Eight Serpents transformed into Black Monsters—A grand and faithful Representation of the MILTONIC HELL, with the overflowing of the lava, &c.—And, lastly, a superb and richly decorated View, pourtraying [sic] the BANQUET of the GODS. Principal Characters: Halrequin, (Warrior) Mr. Lasselles, sen. Scaraouch, Mr. Bradbury; Pantaloon, Mr. Connell; Principal Fiend, Mr. Gray; Fiends, Messrs. Cosgrove, De Castro, and Fox; Barber, and Attendant, (with Songs) Mr. Johannot; Don Quixote, Mr. Gomery; and Sancho, Mr. Laurent; Mirth, and Quathaba, Miss Gray; Kasky, Mrs. Broad; Florella, (Confidant to Columbine) Mrs. Mercerot; and Columbine, Miss Smith. Dancers, Choristers, Servants, Shewmen, Music-seller, Miller, Mob, Warriors in Silver Armour, Warriors in Gold Armour, &c.
