ASTLEY’s AMPHITHEATRE presented many novelties, which promise to support the same which has been already acquired at this very popular place of entertainment. It was to be sure a considerable disappointment to a very crowded and genteel audience, that in consequence of the absence of Madame VOLANGE, who was yesterday taken extremely ill, the Indian Ballet of Action, entitled Zelico, was necessarily deferred. A very handsome apology from Mr. ASTLEY was, however, kindly received by the audience, and a piece designed for Monday was substituted in its room. In this piece, which exhibits a picture of Caledonian Lovers, there is a considerable portion of humour, and the several performers entered very much into the spirit of their respective parts. Mr. ASTLEY, who has done himself so much credit by several productions on former occasions, last night introduced to the public a piece which will not detract from his former popularity. The adventured in The Silver Star; or, The Mirror of Witchcraft, are managed with much dexterity, and were very much relished by the audience.—The piece cannot fail to be highly attractive. A new Song, entitled John Bull, and the English Constitution, was very warmly received. It is far from being destitute of point, and is peculiarly acceptable at the present moment. When speaking of the provision which the Manager has made for the entertainment of the public this season, it is impossible to avoid mentioning the feats of Horsemanship which were exhibited.
