The manner in which General Jackoo deports himself in his military habilaments, is a most admirable burlesque of some of our Master Jackies en militaire. He draws his sword, and skips about with as much monkey consequence as the best of them. From the whimsical expression of his action and appearance, we make no doubt but if he had the gift of speech, he would, while he is so laughably brandishing his sword, cry―”Who’s afraid?” But the sagacity of this surprizing monkey is not less than his dexterity, for when he is on the rope he uses the ballance-pole, to preserve his equilibrium, with as much caution and propriety as any human being can possibly do. The shifting the ballance-pole from behind his back, underneath his feet, in order to bring it before him, he does with amazing excellence. Had we not seen him really perform this, we could scarcely have thought it possible. But indeed from this specimen of animal perfection we cannot pretend to say what is or what is not within their power, under the discipline of an assiduous and judicious tutor.
