It is impossible for the merit of Mr. Astley to be more conspicuously shewn, than in the excellency of his Musical Pieces, which are both humorous and entertaining, and give no offence to any one. The new Burletta of Cupid Pilgrim, is particularly so, and is allowed to be one of the neatest and most pleasing things of the kind ever yet produced, and when the variety and nature of the entertainments in general are considered, it cannot afford a moment’s wonder, that Astley’s Theatre should have become so great a favorite with the town, especially when it is recommended by a continual succession of amusements, that cannot fail to please and delight every one of the audience, and to claim, from their novelty and spirit, a decided superiority over every other place of fashionable resort.
