Astley’s Riding School.—General Jackco made his first appearance last night at this Theatre. This is the wonderful monkey from the Fair of St. Germaine, Paris, where it has been exhibited, we are informed, for two years with universal applause. He enters dressed as a Prussian Hussar, and on being accosted and questioned where he is going, he in a very cool and deliberate manner pulls from his pocket a paper, which he unfolds and presents to the enquirer: the paper being read, proves to be a furlough, giving him leave of absence in consequence of his expertness in his exercise. Being desired to perform it, he draws his sword, brandishes it, and afterwards returns it to the scabbard. He is then desired to divest himself of his side-arms, which he does and presents them to his attendant. He afterwards appears on the tight rope dressed as a tumbler with a balance pole. His performance here is very surprising and entertaining. He jumps with his feet closed on different sides, alternately varying his position. He also balances a triangular branch of lights with which he runs along the rope. From the approbation this little animal received, we doubt not but Mr. Astley will be amply recompenced for this addition to his entertainments.
