ROYAL SALOON.

In the change of Performance which took place last night at this Theatre, and which for variety surpassed every thing of the kind we ever saw before, several new Pieces were introduced; but those which most attracted our notice, where the SLEEPER AWAKE, and the PANTOMIME.—The former has much merit, is marked with EXCELLENT Songs, which were as EXCELLENTLY given, has been performed in Dublin and Liverpool, but NEVER HERE—The latter is in the serious strain, and is taken from the well-known story of BAUCIS and PHILEMON, recorded in the Heathen Mythology; and which never appeared before on a British Theatre. The Manager seems to have spared no expense in the Scenery and Dresses, which, indeed, are superb to a degree. The Performers, on their parts, exerted themselves to the utmost of their abilities, and merited the applause, great as they were, which they received, and from one of the most brilliant audiences that every graced that, or any other place of amusement.

The Author has minutely attended to History in tis charming Entertainment, except in one instance, where Baucis and Philemon are at their death changed into trees; this part of the story being perhaps unfit for Stage representation.
