INTELLIGENCE FROM ASTLEY’S.

We visited the Royal Grove last night for the express purpose of seeing Young Astley resume his reins of his high bred racers, and indeed we never were so delighted. Young Astley at no period of time ever appeared to more advantage nor was he ever better received—his late vacation had given him and his horses every requisite for the performance of those wonderful gymnastic exercises, which were more numerous than we could have conceived—Young Astley not only exhibited in the circle, but also performed two or three characters on the stage, the last of which was that of Harlequin; Miss Smith, Columbine and Johannot Clown; strength sufficient to keep any audience in a continual roar.

From the great numbers tat could not obtain admittance, the following hand-bill was very judiciously prepared and distributed; this prevented the confusion that might otherwise have taken place, and it does Mr. Astley the highest credit to be so well prepared.

Copy of the hand-bill distributed:

            “Royal Grove.

“Every place in the Boxes being taken for YOUNG ASTLEY’s benefit, this day before twelve o’clock, it is supposed numbers will be disappointed by being consequently deprived of obtaining seats to see the entertainments.

“Mr. Astley, senr. highly sensible to the distinguished honour and patronage conferred on his son, but so singularly great a demand, most respectfully informs the Nobility, Gentry, and others, who may be thus disappointed of seeing the entertainments this evening, that Young Astley will repeat the same that are to be performed on this his benefit night, to-morrow, Thursday the 15th, Friday the 16th, and Saturday the 17th Inst. For the last time.

Wednesday, Sept. 14, 1791, Five o’clock Afternoon.”
